Welcome to the YD Professional Training Series U3: Youth Diversity & Cultural Competency!

This is part 3 in a 5-level training series aimed at preparing organizations to implement youth-adult partnerships to better connect youth to caring adults and their communities.

Learn the basics of positive youth development and the importance of taking a youth-friendly approach in your youth programs and services.

In this unit you will learn:
1. What are the primary and secondary dimensions of diversity and why valuing diversity is important in youth programming.
2. Why understanding race and ethnicity is important to positive youth development and youth programming.
3. How to distinguish between gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and biological sex.
4. The difference between an impairment, handicap, and disability and how to identify guidelines of inclusive programming.
5.How to develop cultural competency and how to identify where your organization is on the continuum of cultural competency.
